Nanotec NI is Northern Ireland's new Nanotechnology research, development and exploitation centre.
Nanotec NI is a world-class centre for the design, fabrication,
characterisation and commercial exploitation of nanotechnology
processes, devices and systems. It is Northern Ireland's nanotechnology
engine for new wealth creation.
Nanotec NI involves the University of Ulster and Queen's University Belfast,
together with Invest Northern Ireland, the Department for Employment
and Learning, and various Northern Ireland Industries in a strategic
partnership involving £11M to date of EU and University funding.
The Vision and Aims of Nanotec NI are to develop new industries in
Northern Ireland and elsewhere - and to achieve global impact for the
extensive nanotechnology research and development activities that
already exist within Northern Ireland.
Nanotec NI has world-class nano-research strengths in Medical,
Electronics, MEMS, Bio-sensors, Nano-coatings, Magnetic Storage, Drug
Delivery, Tissue Engineering and Photonics areas - and more. Nanotec NI
is particularly strong in the fabrication and characterisation of
nanostructures.
The current joint Directors of Nanotec NI are; Professor Robert Bowman (Centre for Nanostructured Media) of Queen's University and Professor Jim McLaughlin (Nanotechnology and Integrated BioEngineering Centre) of the University of Ulster.
