KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER
There is strong Northern Ireland industrial support for nanotechnology research.
Over 20 locally-sited companies are actively supporting nanotechnology research in Northern Ireland. Their
products vary from pharmaceuticals to military systems, and their sizes range from start-ups to
multi-nationals.
Activities Nanotec NI is actively involved with include;
- Knowledge transfer
- Licensing
- Spin-outs
Some of the 'close-to-product' R&D and technology activities targeted for
exploitation from the University of Ulster are:
- Diamond-like carbon nano-layers for coating polymers and plastics, medical
and other sensors, high-temperature aeronautic and automotive components,
and protective pharmaceutical packaging.
- Pinhole-free nano-meter-thickness carbon layers.
